Captain Thomas Green was a respected seafarer who served in the British Royal Navy during the 18th century. In 1742, he was appointed commander of the HMS Nottingham, a formidable warship that played a significant role in several naval engagements.

In 1745, Captain Green met a tragic end during the Battle of Toulon. While leading his ship into battle, he was struck down by enemy fire and killed instantly. His body was returned to England and buried with full military honors.

However, according to numerous accounts, Captain Green’s spirit did not find peace. His apparition was said to haunt the decks of the HMS Nottingham, appearing to sailors and officers alike. The sightings were so frequent and convincing that they became a well-known legend among the Royal Navy.
